1.      Suppose yourself to be an educationist, Arun Kumar. You feel that present education system is not good enough and there are serious flaws in it. Write a letter to the editor making a case for all round development of the students moulding them into good citizens rather than unskilled bookworms.

            Subject: Present education system.
            Sir
Through the columns of your reputed national daily, I would like to express my concern about the impractical and unproductive present education system which is eating up our children.

In the present world of increasing competition, the schools design their curriculum not keeping in view the children’s development rather to outdo the other schools thus making them beast of burden instead of developing their personality.

The schools pay no attention to hone the skills of the children helping them grow up as responsible citizen rather they focus on somehow completing the syllabus. To them, it matters less what the students have learnt, the important thing to them is whether the pages of their notebooks are filled or not.

Rote learning and excellence in examination have become supreme in today’s education. Co-curricular activities are put aside. Only those students are considered good who secure good marks in exams and those who lag behind in studies they are looked down upon not only by the teachers but also by their parents.

The schools should inculcate age-old values of brotherhood, tolerance, team spirit, satisfaction etc. in the students. The education imparted should be practical and relevant. The interest of the students should be taken into consideration. Only then our education can be called true education.

I hope, you will be kind enough to provide some space to my views in your widely circulated newspaper. Only the awareness of public can bring about a revamping of present education system.
            Thanking you,

            Yours sincerely
            Arun Kumar

Subject: Inadequate flood relief in Chennai villages.

            Sir

Through the columns of your widely circulated national daily, I would like to highlight the slow pace of relief operations carried out by the state government with regard to the flooded villages in and around Chennai.
Chennai has received incessant rains since the 1st December which is also the heaviest in the last 100 years. It has crippled the normal life in Chennai as the roads, railway tracks and the airport are all submerged. People are stuck at different places without food and help. Schools and colleges have been closed and exams have been postponed. The meteorological department has predicted heavy rains for next four days as well.

The government agencies say that the government has started her operations at war level but public resources say that the rescue operations are not going at proper pace. The people deployed for this task are insufficient and careless in their approach. Several people are still stranded and haven’t got any food packets. The accommodation provided in the relief camps is not enough.

People suggest that the government should deploy more soldiers for this task so that help can be quickened and more people can be rescued.

I hope, you will be kind enough to provide some space to my views in your newspaper this may perhaps swing the authorities into action.
            Thanking you,

            Yours sincerely

            Sir

With reference to the subject cited above I would like to say that I purchased a mobile phone from your showroom on 15th February, 2016. But within a few days of the purchase it started malfunctioning.

I reported the matter at once but it was said that it might be because of unknowingly disturbing the setting and they temporarily solved the problem. But afterwards there emerged lots of other problems: It would automatically shut down; Contacts would not respond and the phone would hang; Applications would take a very long time to open etc. You have even serviced it once but the problems still persist.

As under the terms and conditions of sale, the phone carries a guarantee of two years, so I request you to replace my phone with a new one so that I can avoid further inconvenience.

Subject: Rash driving in the city.

Sir

Through the columns of your esteemed national daily I would like to voice my concern about rash driving in the city.

Now adays the cases of rash driving are increasing. Especially, the youngsters and new bike enthusiasts have been seen driving rashly. To flaunt their bikes or cars or the youngsters tend to do this. Their immaturity doesn’t make them realize how they are risking and many others’ lives. The children are impulsive, fearless and love thrill. They are unable to see the consequences. Even the girls are not behind boys in this matter. Every year, we hear and read about several casualties due to rash driving and in most of such cases we find teenagers involved. Though there are laws and rules yet the culprits always go scot free.

The government should include traffic rules into curriculum and make sure that the culprit should never escape without punishment. Installing CCTVs and creating check-points can also help in this.

I hope your newspaper will prove to be instrumental in disseminating awareness about rash driving and carrying my concern to the authorities.
Thanking you,

Yours sincerely
Preeti
